Helix Ray
About
HELIX RAY is an intimate UK-based music project exploring themes of love, war, politics, spiritualism, nature, mythicism, malady, melancholy and more. With thought-provoking lyrics and rhythms, you are given time to reflect on fears and emotions, offering an almost cathartic experience.
For the sound HELIX RAY delved into a variety of his favourite genres of music, finding inspiration from alternative folk, rock, ska, electronica, and even a hint of 80's west coast mysticism. Growing up around folk music and its performative nature, his fondness of rootsy melodies with innovative percussion, raw-edged dramatic vocals, harmonies and visceral lyrics have inspired this project.
Through HELIX RAY’s persona he reflects on the idiosyncrasies and oxymorons in our world today. With burgeoning conflicting opinions of governments, news, social media, health issues, alternative therapies and otherworldliness, we seem to be misplacing our modesty and empathy. HELIX RAY gives process in thought to rekindle oneself in an ever-controlling and scrutinising system, as well as a creative way to face the indifference and strive for hope.
Shaped by years of writing, performance and numerous creative projects and alongside a career in rehabilitation with the injured and the elderly, he cherished, failed and got up again, circling back to his true love of music and art. HELIX RAY is a narration about picking yourself up from your own passion when all else has failed.
